SID – January 2025

SID – January 2025

All SID board members were present.

Reminder, Seminole Improvement District (SID) takes care of  the water systems within Westlake community gates and most of Westlake’s infrastructure outside of our community gates (except SPW is PBC territory).

1) PUBLIC COMMENTS – I know SID constituents can’t really make these Monday 4PM meetings (by design, I’m sure). But if you ever can, put this in your back pocket: these meetings are only open for public comments once, at the beginning of the meeting. They’re over before you know it. So if you want to make a public comment, be there before 4PM. Be ready!

2) SID/Minto VS ITID – This is the litigation deciding whether or not Persimmon can ever extend east to 140th.

Unfortunately, no news, guys! It was said at the December SID/City of Westlake Joint Workshop that oral arguments were expected in January. But nothing yet. There’s still time though.

3) A 4 PERSON CREW – Did you know that SID’s boots-on-the-ground crew only employs four gentlemen? Honestly, I thought there were only two gentlemen, which kind of vexed me. But four isn’t much better.

Anyway, say hi and thanks to these guys if you see them out and about. They’ll be driving their gators in their SID uniforms. The weather is nice now, but it can be pretty brutal and Westlake infrastructure and water systems have to be quite the bear to wrestle.

4) SID HEADQUARTERS – is about to get a glow up. SID is currently housed across from Seminole Ridge High School in those pink-peach WWI-era bomb-shelter type buildings.

Well after more than 100 years (I *think* I’m just kidding) SID is moving over to a brand spanking new building! It’s concrete block, will have brand new furnishings, and state of the art computer technology! Well deserved, SID!

I drove over to take some pictures of the new building but it said No Trespassing so I got scared and sped away at the posted speed limit. But you can espy it from the Tractor Supply Co. parking lot or from the HEW Fitness parking lot.

The City of Westlake’s Building Department will also be housed at this new building and so is paying their fair share of about 20%. Not clear if that’s just for the furnishings or all-in.

Look for the big SID move this summer! Word has it those bomb shelters will be razed ASAP and eventually replaced with commercial. How about a furniture or home goods store, like World Market? What else do we need?
