City Council Meeting – February 2026

City Council Meeting – February 2026

UP NEXT: Special Meeting Tuesday 2/24, 4PM (updated!) at the Lodge the City Council will publicly discuss their rankings of City Manager candidates after their interviews (interviews take place Thursday 2/5) and next steps.

1) CARMELA COFFEE FUNDRAISER EVENT – is Westlake’s SECOND school fundraiser event! Next Wednesday 2/11, all day from 7AM-5PM, mention “Westlake school fundraiser” and Carmela Coffee will donate 10% of your purchase to Seminole Ridge High School.

Remember, Jabrewski’s was kind enough to host us last November and we earned $90. Mayor J.P. O’Connor graciously matched those funds and so Westlake was able to give Golden Grove Elementary $180. (See item 1 here.)

For next week’s fundraiser at Carmela, Dr. Anita Kaplan, the Education Advisory Board’s Chair (EAB Chair), challenges us to earn at least $200 for Seminole Ridge on our own! So get your friends, your family, your kids, your neighbors, and definitely those high schoolers, to make a Carmela stop! We can do it!

2) READ FOR THE RECORD – is a super cutesy yet badarse (excuse my French. Ugh. In a kids topic of all things.) initiative that Westlake is participating in for the first time in our 10 year history! Mayor O’Connor and EAB Chair Dr. Kaplan are volunteering to read See Marcus Grow to Palm Beach County kindergarteners Thursday 2/26. Oh, and you can volunteer, too!

Mayor O’Connor is very excited about this particular book, saying it likens the growth of little kids to those of plants in a garden.

3) MAVIS TIRES & BRAKES – representatives were present to talk about their 5,636 sq. ft., 6 bay shop going into the northeast corner of the Publix block.

Mavis provides oil changes, vehicle inspections, replaces fluids and obviously does everything tires.

Mavis runs an environmentally clean operation. They have no floor drains and store all tires, new and used, inside and no service they provide requires a running vehicle, so there are no emissions.

In that case, I say let’s put a breakfast place in adjacent outparcel OP B (seen immediately south of Mavis in the image below). Nothing better than getting a cup of joe and a biscuits and gravy with fresh berries or waffles with whip, sausage and syrup (sir-up!), maybe a donut, while waiting for your car to get fixed! Let Publix Broker Michael Rautbord know we would reallllly love a breakfast place!

4) ROGER DEAN CHEVROLET STADIUM FUNDRAISER – for Seminole Ridge High School is happening in Jupiter Saturday, April 18th, as per Vice Mayor Greg Langowski, Westlake’s EAB liaison. Look out for details to come, and mark it on your calendar in the meantime!

5) TWO PROJECT TANGO EVENTS – The countdown is on (77 days) till the Palm Beach County Commission’s vote on Project Tango April 23rd. In the meantime, Mayor O’Connor knows of two upcoming Project Tango events:

I – Project Tango Rally – this Saturday February 7th, a rally will be held from 11AM-2PM at Arden’s Lake House lawn. Tell gate security you’re attending the Project Tango Rally.

I’m sure local media will be present, but it’s also important to rub elbows with each other, unify against the Project by looking in each other’s eyes, sharing info and agreeing to a plan ahead. If you can only show up for 15 minutes, go!

II – PBC Town Hall Meeting – is happening Wednesday February 25th at the Royal Palm Beach Grand Ballroom (151 Civic Center Way, RPB). This is the official, public record chance to have your opinions or concerns about Project Tango heard by the Commission that will ultimately vote on the matter. Palm Beach County Mayor Sara Baxter is hosting the event; CBS 12 and I’m sure other local media will be present.

And here are two websites I know about:

6) WESTLAKE’S DECENNIAL – Mayor O’Connor has suggested that Westlake invest in “Challenge Coins” (imagine commemorative coins) for our decennial (Westlake’s 10 year anniversary) and specifically for fundraising for our big city park at Seminole/Sycamore.

These Challenge Coins are, in particular, coins our City Council hands out to our legislators in Tallahassee when, ahem, *proposing opportunities* for funding Westlake’s big city park. It’s a long standing tradition that gently puts the pressure on the decision-makers who decide our fate. Imagine a commemorative coin you flip between your knuckles. That kind of coin.

With some opposition from Council member Gary Werner about price, the Council ultimately agreed to a purchase of 100 coins not to exceed $700. And there’s already a big demand! Even from Council member Werner himself!

7) PBC FIRE RESCUE – January stats. Chief Amanda Vomero was immediately tuned in to the half a minute increase in Response Time from December’s 6:28. Chief says she will look into what this little bloop is and report back and/or fix it. See December’s stats at item 9 here.

8) NEW PBSO COMMANDER – Replacing PBSO Captain Robert Sandt is Captain Michael Kletzky. With a big hat.

See you at the next meeting, February 24th!
