Ground Has Broken for Westlake’s New Elementary School

Ground Has Broken for Westlake’s New Elementary School
It was a gorgeous, sunny Westlake morning for West Community Elementary’s groundbreaking! PBC School District reps were there, along with new Principal Darline Winewski, City Council and Staff, Board Member Marcia Andrews, Golden Grove Elementary’s student choir, Westlake families… And a lil puppy! Congrats everyone!

Superintendent Michael J. Burke spoke, pointing out it was thanks to the half-penny sales tax that voters approved in November 2024 that this new school can be built. The half-penny sales tax will fund capital improvements (so also improvements on older schools) for the Palm Beach County School District January 1, 2026 through December 31, 2035. Golf claps, voters!

Mayor J.P. O’Connor noted that yes, this was a groundbreaking for a school, but also for opportunity, and that Westlake is proud, strong and VERY ready for this school.
