Big Park – Phase I is Official!

Big Park – Phase I is Official!
Remember that time last year when the City of Westlake’s request for park funds was line-item vetoed by the Governor? And then remember when THIS YEAR the City was awarded $600,000 for our big park (wholly due to our killer lobbyist Karl Rasmussen)??? And remember that it was a “matching” award with the City for a total of $1.2 million? And then Seminole Improvement District (SID) agreed to split the $600,000 matching part with the City of Westlake so that both the SID and the City were putting in $300,000 each??? Wow. What a wild ride that was, right?

Well all of this means Phase I of the big park is officially out for Requests for Proposals (RFPs)! And here are the details of the hardscape/utility infrastructures.

NOT shown are the public fishing fixtures that are also included in Phase I, but will be installed by a separate contractor.

Thanks to SID Engineer Ryan D. Wheeler for these super technical plans!

Seen below, located at the stars, flag poles will be installed as well as memorial monuments: one proposed monument is a Blue Star Veterans Memorial sponsored by the Wellington Garden Club and the other monument is proposed to be a 9/11 memorial funded by Westlake’s Art in Public Places (AIPP) program.
