Elections 2026 – Interview with Vice Mayor Greg Langowski
Not to miss: yesterday’s interview with Councilman Erik Gleason! On deck is Mayor J.P. O’Connor’s interview tomorrow!

And here is Vice Mayor Greg Langowski!

1) What is your motivation to serve the City of Westlake?

Westlake is a special place. As one of Florida’s newest cities, we have a rare opportunity to shape a community from the ground up in a way that reflects the values of the people who live here. My motivation to serve comes from a desire to help build something lasting — a city that is safe, financially strong, and full of opportunity for families.

I’m also motivated by the people who call Westlake home. Residents here care deeply about their community, and it’s inspiring to see neighbors come together at events, support local initiatives, and take pride in where they live. Being able to help guide the city’s future is both an honor and a responsibility I take very seriously.

2) How do you characterize your role on the council? What makes you unique or particularly useful?

I try to bring a practical and collaborative approach to the council. My professional experience working in government has given me insight into how policy decisions translate into real outcomes for residents. That perspective helps me evaluate issues not just from a policy standpoint, but also from an implementation standpoint.

I also focus on solutions and long-term planning. Westlake is still a young city, so many of the decisions we make today will shape the community for decades to come. I approach my role with that in mind and work to ensure we are building a strong foundation for the future.

3) Is there anything you’re working on behind the scenes for Westlake?

Much of the work that helps move a city forward happens outside the council chamber. I stay engaged with regional and statewide organizations that advocate for cities to ensure Westlake has a voice in conversations that impact funding, infrastructure, and local decision-making.

I also spend time working with city staff, regional partners, and neighboring municipalities to stay ahead of issues that affect growing communities like ours. That collaboration helps bring new opportunities and resources to Westlake while ensuring we are planning responsibly as the city continues to grow.

4) What is Westlake’s biggest hurdle to conquer right now? If you have a solution, what is it?

Our biggest challenge right now is managing growth while maintaining the high quality of life that attracted residents to Westlake in the first place. As the city continues to grow, it’s important that infrastructure, public safety, and city services keep pace with our community’s needs.

One example of how we’re addressing this is our work on developing Westlake’s first major park. Projects like this provide spaces for families to gather, recreate, and build community, while also ensuring that growth doesn’t come at the expense of residents’ quality of life. By planning thoughtfully, budgeting responsibly, and partnering with developers and regional organizations, we can continue to guide Westlake’s growth in a sustainable and community-focused way.
