DISCLAIMER: As a rule, Westlake Wanderer (WW) does not cover Westlake Resident Master HOA events. These events are pay-to-play by our quarterly HOA dues and, often, with additional fees beyond said dues.
That said, it’s fun to get the word out from time to time about the great clubs, programs and events Westlake’s Master HOA hosts. So I’ll be featuring some of these in a series called “Master HOA Mondays” for the next few weeks.
BOOKWORMS BOOK CLUB
Full disclosure, I’m the Bookworm’s secretary. But still, my HIGHLY RECOMMEND rating is unbiased!
This ladies’ book club was originally started in 2019 by Westlake’s Master HOA. Back in the day, a small group of ladies would meet by the pool with a PBC librarian moderating meetings while Robert (IYKYK) showered us with soda and chips and cookies… we’d have to fight off mosquitos, cover from rain, and shout over the pool’s ambient music.
Things have changed, but the fun, food and friendship have not. Now, we meet in the comfort of the Westlake Lodge every fourth Wednesday of the month. Readers usually bring something to eat or drink to share. Many of our books can be checked out of the PBC library. Otherwise, book club is FREE!
We have met almost consistently each month since 2019, except for very early on and during the pandemic, of course. Our first book was The Glass Castle by Jeanette Walls in 2019 and we just read The God of the Woods by Liz Moore last month.
We have had one author visit us: our own Cresswind neighbor Laura Schroff who came to talk about her memoir An Invisible Thread last year. And this September 2026 meeting, author Margie Zable Fisher will come to talk about her book The Cabernet Club!
Once or twice a year, we spend part of the meeting on a rapid fire question ice breaker. And we’ve started a December special event: last year we beadazzled some of our favorite book covers; and this year we’ll be partaking in a book basket swap! We had a Friendsgiving meeting that brought almost 30 readers!
Everyone leaves with smiles plastered on their faces, riding that book club high. You should try it at least once!
